The Department of Catechetics in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg celebrated Thanksgiving Mass on Saturday 8th November with Father Alex Muana (SVD). There were 68 catechists who attended the occasion.
During Mass the latest deceased catechists were remembered in a special way. A candle for each deanery was lit as a symbol of The Light of Christ for the Souls departed. Father Alex Muana in his homily mentioned that the catechists use their skills for other people and that is pleasing to God. He said what one has is temporal but what one is, is important. He gave practical examples when he said: “One can buy Bodyguards but cannot buy True FRUE FRIEND. One can buy expensive and confortable bed but cannot buy SLEEP. He continued: Material things are from God and if not used properly can be taken away anytime. The skills that catechists have are a gift and when they use it in the church for His people they respond well like the stewards who invested the money he received from the Master”.
After Mass catechists who attended Formation Courses- R. C .I. A. (17) and Christian Morality (10), received Certificates of attendance.
It was a lovely day indeed.
