During the solemnity of Christ the Universal King, the Church of our Lady of Africa, Mohlakeng was at its best as it welcomed new members to the table of the Lord. As always, the church choir was on form with their beautiful singing, which got everyone happily participating in the Liturgy.
The parish priest, Fr Nkosinathi Nkabinde in his homily encouraged all to seek Christ as we meet him daily through the Eucharist. During this, the Year of Faith, he encouraged parishioners to work towards strengthening their faith and seeing to it that it bears more fruits in their spirituality and in bettering their Christian lives.
This Mass was televised on Dumisa, channel 340 on DSTV. Fr Nkosinathi explained that that was done with the intention of spreading the good news to more people.

Eight youngsters were welcomed to the banquet of the Lord by the praying community of Toekomsrus, St Martin de Porres on November 25. Fr Nkosinathi Nkabinde, the priest in charge, wished that the candidates would allow Christ to rule and direct them as they grow in finding themselves in the faith. He also encouraged parents and godparents to take an active role in ensuring that the spiritual lives of the candidates are nurtured and that they grow to be good and responsible Catholics.

On Saturday 17 February at 14:00 adults desirous of being received into the Church will present themselves to the Archbishop at his Cathedral for the Rite of Election. They will be received into the Church during the Easter liturgy in their parish when they will be confirmed and make their first Holy Communion and, in the case of catechumens, first be baptised with Easter water.
Catechumens and candidates, known in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults as enquirers, have journeyed for at least a year towards full and active membership of the Christian community in the company of their sponsor. Sponsors will also be present at the Rite of Election on the first Sunday of Lent.
At the Synod ’08 RCIA was one of the programmes accepted for faith formation and spirituality. Renew Africa, another a fruit of the Synod ’08, is also a guided journey towards a renewal of faith.
Parishes are urged to advise the Liturgy Department how many candidates, catechumens and sponsors will attend. Call Annastacia on 011 402-6400.
