The Sunday 22 May, 10am, Mass at the Parish of Our Lady of Lebanon, Mulbarton was an incredibly special event. It was special for two reasons: celebrating Mass was Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai, patriarch of Antioch and all the East, together with other dignitaries Archbishop Boulos Sayyah, the Vicar General of the Maronite Patriarchate, the Apostolic visitor of the Maronites in Southern Africa Monsignor Simon Faddoul and the Most Reverend Malek Abou Tanous, Superior General of the congregation of the Maronite Lebanese Missionaries worldwide.
All were on a visit to Maronite parishes across Southern Africa with an extra special visit to Our Lady of Lebanon, Mulbarton to bless the newly-built school on the church grounds. In attendance was Archbishop Buti Tlhagale as well as the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Peter Wells.
It is also the inaugural month of the parish and its church. Every year in the month of May, an annual festival and fundraising event is held to celebrate the building of the church and establishment of the parish. The festival offers various food and drinks as well as entertainment, competitions and prizes for a minimal entrance fee which is only applicable to adults.
