The Department of Pastoral Care for Migrants and Refugees aims to promote a Christian spirit of welcoming people from different nationalities, languages, ethnics and traditions to share together the same faith as one family rooted in God’s love.
The priority and commitment of the department is to attend to the socio-pastoral needs of migrants and refugees and for local communities to live in a better cohesive country.
As Blessed Scalabrinini, the father of migrants says: “Courage, patience and perseverance are indispensable virtues in our commitment to transform to the existential reality of the love of Christ towards migrants and the host community.”
The department would like to extend its deepest gratitude to St Patrick`s, La Rochelle, the Scalabrinian priests – Frs Ivaldo Bettin, Sergio Durigon and Jorge Guerra and their parishioners for all their contributions during the Christmas season. Thanks for the full support from Bienvenu Shelter, from Sr Kadia Prigol and her team.
The department also thanked other parishes and organisations. With their donations, they were able to assist more than 200 families with food parcels.
Over 300 children received Christmas gifts during the Christmas celebration on 1 December at the Cathedral. The support from many people made an enormous difference in many people with very poor conditions of life.
The work of assisting many children to get into schools starts in the first term. Pastoral Care is still asking for donations of stationeries and school uniforms. Anyone wishing to assist can contact the Pastoral Care Office 011 402 6400.
